Lewisville residents will see a familiar face at the helm of Lamar Middle School after the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) announced Monday that Nathan Hawes has been named the school’s next principal. The appointment matters to families in Flower Mound and the broader Lewisville community because Hawes brings a quarter‑century of experience within the district, promising continuity and a student‑centered focus as the school prepares for the upcoming academic year.
According to the Cross Timbers Gazette, Hawes began his LISD career in 2001 at Lewisville High School, serving as a coach and science teacher before moving into administrative roles. He later became a strategic design coach and was appointed assistant principal at Lamar Middle School in 2015. Most recently, he served as associate principal at Lewisville High School, a position he held before returning to Lamar.
“Coming back to Lamar feels like coming home,” Hawes said in the district’s release. “I am honored to serve as its next principal and look forward to working alongside the incredible Lamar students, staff and families to continue to achieve great things.” His long‑standing ties to the school and the district are underscored by his educational background: a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master’s in Educational Leadership, both earned at Abilene Christian University.
LISD Superintendent Dr. Lori Rapp praised Hawes, stating, “We are thrilled for Mr. Hawes to step into the role of principal at Lamar Middle School. He is a proven student‑centered leader with an unwavering commitment to building strong relationships with students, staff and families.” Hawes was also a finalist for LISD Assistant Principal of the Year in 2023, highlighting his recognized leadership within the district.
The appointment comes as the district continues to emphasize community connection and academic growth across its schools. Parents and staff at Lamar can expect Hawes to prioritize student achievement, staff support, and family engagement, aligning with LISD’s broader goals for educational excellence.
What’s next: Hawes will assume his duties as principal following the district’s Monday announcement, guiding Lamar Middle School through the remainder of the school year and into the next. The school plans to hold a welcome assembly for students and families later this fall, though specific dates have not yet been released.
