Les Schwab gives $15,000 grant to Family Access Network to aid low‑income families in Central Oregon

In a clear demonstration of community stewardship, Les Schwab has contributed $15,000 to the Family Access Network (FAN) to expand vital assistance for low‑income children and their families across Central Oregon. The grant, announced in Bend, will be split evenly: $7,500 will fund FAN’s direct services in Crook County, while the remaining $7,500 will support the organization’s broader operations throughout Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties.

Targeted help for families in need

FAN serves families who are living in poverty, experiencing homelessness, or falling into the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) category—households that earn above the federal poverty line yet still struggle to meet basic needs. By connecting families to food, clothing, shelter and school‑supply resources, FAN helps ensure that children can attend school prepared to learn.

Les Schwab’s longstanding partnership

“Les Schwab has been a longtime, dedicated partner of FAN,” said Julie Lyche, FAN’s Executive Director. “They continue to show up for our local communities and it makes such a difference in the lives of the kids we serve.” Since its founding in 1952 in Prineville, Les Schwab has grown to hundreds of locations across the western United States and has built a reputation for reinvesting in the neighborhoods where it operates.

Impact on Central Oregon schools

FAN’s model places advocates directly inside schools, allowing rapid identification of families in need and swift connection to resources. With 28 advocates working at 66 sites, the organization is positioned to break the cycle of poverty for many Central Oregon children. The new grant will enable additional outreach, expand the supply of essential items, and strengthen the network of community partners that support vulnerable families.

Community response

Local leaders and residents have praised the partnership, noting that private‑sector generosity like Les Schwab’s grant fills critical gaps that public funding alone cannot address. The funding arrives at a time when the cost of living continues to rise, placing added pressure on families already stretched thin.

How to get involved

Families seeking assistance can contact the Family Access Network at (541) 693‑5675 or visit familyaccessnetwork.org for more information about available services. Community members who wish to support FAN’s mission may also consider volunteering or donating through the organization’s website.

Les Schwab’s contribution underscores the power of local businesses to uplift their communities, reinforcing the shared values of faith, family and individual liberty that define Central Oregon’s spirit.
