Lenexa City Center hosted a World Cup watch party, with hundreds gathered to watch the United States take on Paraguay in the U.S.’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Community Comes Together
A stage featured four huge TV screens facing in three different directions to accommodate fans. People gathered on blankets and lawn chairs to watch the match, which lasted until after 10 p.m. and saw the Americans secure a 4-1 victory.
Numerous food trucks catered the event, and activities for kids included a life-sized inflatable foosball game and airbrushed temporary tattoos.
Lenexa resident Daniel Robles appreciated the feeling of friendship at the event. “I really like how it’s bringing everyone together. When they score a goal, you see everyone stand up,” he said.
Emily Pineda of Overland Park brought her three sons to the party to watch the game from the front row. “They’re big soccer-lovers for sure,” she said. “They’ve followed Team USA since they were little.”
