Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt appeared on the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast on Tuesday to describe President Trump’s straightforward diplomatic style. Leavitt said she witnessed the president’s candid tone during tense phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as a lunch with former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Leavitt recalled the lunch, saying, “We were sitting around the table in a beautiful place, and the president just started ripping into him for his policies. He told Starmer, ‘Your policies here are so stupid. You need to close your borders. You need to deport the people you have in your country. I know your country, I know your people, they hate what you’re doing.’”
She emphasized that the same bluntness the president shows in public press briefings is reflected in private conversations. “What he says to the media publicly is exactly what he’s saying behind the scenes privately, too. In fact, much of what he says privately eventually becomes public because he’s candid and honest,” Leavitt said.
Hard‑line stance on fentanyl and trade
During a translator‑assisted call with President Xi in South Korea, Leavitt said the president was “very straightforward” about the fentanyl crisis, demanding that China stop sending precursor chemicals. She noted that, shortly after the call, Kash Patel announced that the precursors would no longer be shipped to the United States, crediting the president’s direct demand for results.
Leavitt also highlighted Trump’s push for China to purchase more U.S. soybeans, underscoring the administration’s commitment to American farmers.
Consistent messaging on foreign policy
Leavitt argued that President Trump’s approach—clear, unapologetic, and results‑oriented—helps protect American interests abroad. She pointed out that the president’s willingness to speak plainly, even when it provokes criticism, demonstrates leadership that puts the nation first.
“He’s always advocating for what our country needs, what our people need, and he’s unequivocal about that,” Leavitt added.
Leavitt’s departure from the White House
In August, Leavitt announced she would leave her role to spend more time with her family. She gave birth to her second child in May and posted on X, “Serving as the White House Press Secretary over the past year and a half has been the honor and adventure of a lifetime.
