Lawrence Township schools are opening their doors to parents, guardians and staff who want to improve their language skills. Beginning on Oct. 6, three evening classes will be offered each Tuesday from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at Indian Creek Elementary School, 10833 E. 56th St.
Class options
Two English‑language classes will be available. One is designed for people whose primary language is Spanish, and the other serves those who speak Haitian Creole. A third class will focus on learning Spanish for English‑speaking participants. All courses will be taught by Lawrence Township teachers who have experience working with multilingual families.

Interested participants can sign up through the links provided by Mirror Indy. The program is free of charge and open to any parent, guardian or school employee who wishes to strengthen communication at home and in the classroom.
Why it matters
Providing language instruction to families supports stronger parental involvement in their children’s education, a cornerstone of traditional family values. When parents can converse confidently in English or Spanish, they are better equipped to help with homework, attend school meetings and engage with teachers.
The initiative also aligns with the community’s commitment to faith‑based stewardship, encouraging families to use their God‑given talents to serve one another. By fostering bilingualism, Lawrence Township helps preserve cultural heritage while promoting unity across the east side of Indianapolis.
