Denton Walter, a talented linebacker from Las Cruces High School in New Mexico, has made a verbal commitment to play football for the University of New Mexico. This decision comes after Walter received an offer from the Lobos on July 21, following a phone call with UNM coach Jason Eck.
Walter’s Impressive High School Career
Walter had an outstanding 2025 season, leading the Bulldawgs with 197 tackles, including 20 for a loss, and seven sacks. He also recorded 19 quarterback hurries and two interceptions, earning him 6A first-team All-State honors from the New Mexico High School Coaches Association and Defensive Player of the Year honors from the Las Cruces Sun-News.
Las Cruces High’s coach, Mark Lopez, expressed his pride and gratitude for Walter’s commitment, stating that it is a testament to the player’s hard work and a sign of UNM’s interest in recruiting top New Mexican talent. Walter will begin his senior season with the Bulldawgs on August 21, facing off against Rio Rancho on the road.
