Mayfield’s Matthew Garcia and Hatch Valley’s Jadelyn Gillespie have been voted as the best Las Cruces-area baseball and softball players in the 2026 season. Garcia received 5,767 total votes, while Gillespie received 9,405 votes.
Athletic Achievements
Garcia was a first-team All-District 3-5A selection in baseball this past season and was one of the Trojans’ best players. He batted .343, recorded a slugging percentage of .371, got on base 49.5% of the time, drove in 14 runs and collected two doubles. Garcia, a senior outfielder, also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage that earned him a “Team Gold Glove” from Mayfield.
Gillespie, a senior utility player who can play catcher, second base and outfield, batted .379 this past season. She recorded 13 RBIs, six doubles and two triples with a 1.053 on-base plus slugging percentage. Gillespie was one of the Bears’ most productive players.
