A woman celebrating the New York Knicks’ NBA championship win at an apartment in Canoga Park ended with her dog getting shot and killed by the Los Angeles Police Department on Saturday night, officials said.
Incident Details
Officers responded to the 7500 block of Jordan Avenue at around 9 p.m. after neighbors reported hearing a woman screaming from inside an apartment, according to the LAPD. When officers arrived, they learned she was not in danger and that she was screaming because the Knicks were beating the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 to secure their first NBA title in 53 years.
Police say the woman didn’t control her dog before it chased after an officer, prompting the shooting. The LAPD said it will share more details about the incident on Monday.
