In Lantana, Florida, the community gathered at Palm Beach Memorial Park to honor the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our country. The event, organized by Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, Inc., marked the 21st annual ‘A Day to Remember’ Memorial Day service, drawing a significant number of attendees.
Lynelle Chauncey Zelnar, the executive director of Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, emphasized the importance of involving families and youth in the event. ‘We are one of the most well-attended Memorial Day services in the county, and we’re family-friendly,’ Zelnar stated. ‘We really push to get the youth involved with our organization.’
This year’s ceremony held special significance as the United States approaches its 250th birthday, a milestone that reminds us of the tremendous sacrifices made for our freedom. The event featured several presentations, including a traditional wreath presentation, the United States Navy Color Guard, and music by the Coastmen Chorus of the Palm Beaches.
Zelnar expressed her commitment to raising awareness and providing a platform for the community to support troops serving overseas. ‘It’s so important to me, but it’s so important to so many other people,’ she said. ‘I’m just the tool being used to bring awareness and to have a place for people to be able to show support of our troops serving overseas.’
The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals over the past 250 years. ‘When I see families out here with their children, that really tugs at the heart,’ Zelnar remarked. ‘Memorial Day is not about picnics or going to the beach. Yes, you can do that, but they’re taking the time out during the day to learn about Memorial Day and to honor those who have passed serving our country, paying the ultimate price. And that’s what we’re about.’
