Kimberly Robeson was looking forward to watching Iran take on New Zealand in the FIFA World Cup at Los Angeles Stadium. However, when she arrived at the venue, she was unable to download her tickets, which she had purchased through StubHub.
Ticket Download Issues
Robeson was redirected to the FIFA ticketing portal, but the tickets were unavailable for download. This was due to a problem with the secondary site used for downloading tickets from third-party sellers like StubHub.
FIFA uses a closed mobile ticketing system to prevent counterfeit tickets and scalping. When selling tickets through third-party services, the seller must initiate the transfer of the tickets before the match. The buyer is then redirected to the FIFA ticketing portal to download the actual passes.
Unfortunately for Robeson, the transfer did not happen in time, and she was unable to attend the match. StubHub has since offered her a refund.
Response from StubHub and FIFA
StubHub released a statement saying that many of the issues fans are facing are due to the event organizer’s poor technology infrastructure and newly announced transfer restrictions. FIFA stated that its official ticket sales channel is the only guaranteed way to purchase valid tickets.
The FIFA World Cup is being held in various cities across the US, including Los Angeles. The tournament will continue until July 19, with the championship match taking place at MetLife Stadium.
