Los Angeles is bracing for a scorching weekend, with high temperatures expected to reach triple digits in inland Southern California. The heat wave is expected to peak on Saturday, with near- to above-normal temperatures inland. High temperatures will range from 95 to well above 100 degrees.
Heat Warnings in Effect
An extreme heat warning will be in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday in the Antelope Valley and Antelope Valley foothills, where temperatures could reach 110 degrees. A similar warning will be in place from 10 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Sunday for the Santa Clarita, San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys, along with the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, Calabasas, Agoura Hills and the inland coast including downtown.
According to NBCLA meteorologist Belen De Leon, “temperatures are going to get even hotter” as the weekend progresses, with a chance of storms in the mountains. Early afternoon storms are possible in some locations.
High temperatures will gradually decrease next week, reaching the low 90s in the San Fernando Valley Monday before mid-80s by Thursday. By late next week, temperatures will run below normal after a stretch of above-normal highs.
