La Cueva standout pitcher Dylan Blomker was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball Draft. He was the 159th overall pick in this year’s draft.
Blomker, who is committed to play college baseball at LSU, is considered by many pro scouts to be the best prospect in New Mexico. He could still opt to follow in the footsteps of other successful players and go to Baton Rouge for three seasons before re-entering the MLB draft in 2029.
Several New Mexico high school players could hear their names called before the 20-round draft comes to an end. According to MLB.com, Cleveland High School’s Anthony Del Angel could be selected.
