The New York Knicks have accepted an invitation to visit the White House to celebrate their NBA championship, owner James Dolan confirmed. This decision has sparked debate among ‘The View’ co-hosts, with some arguing it puts pressure on the players.
Co-hosts Weigh In
Co-host Sara Haines expressed concern that the visit could be seen as a political statement, given Dolan’s friendship with former President Donald Trump. ‘This puts the players in a precarious position merely because Jim Dolan is admittedly a good friend of Donald Trump’s and to now put that on the players, your boss, the owner of the team you play for, is extending this offer, accepting this offer,’ Haines said.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg defended the team’s decision to visit, saying it was an opportunity for the players to stand in the White House and remind people of their achievements. ‘I want them to go. I want all those Black men to stand in our house and remind all of those people, as we try to remind the vice president, that when you try to destroy one part of history, you’re destroying all of our histories,’ Goldberg said.
Co-host Sunny Hostin noted that previous NBA champions had refused to visit the White House during Trump’s presidency, citing his tendency to politicize events. ‘I think there’s a reason why every single — the previous five NBA champions crowned during the Trump administration refused to go. I think there’s a reason for it, and that’s because he politicizes the events that come before him,’ Hostin said.
