A foster kitten in Cincinnati, Ohio, is capturing hearts online with his unique way of getting around. Cincinnati Animal CARE posted a photo of Gelato, a kitten who can now walk thanks to a custom-made wheelchair created by the shelter’s lead veterinary technician, Mallory Smith.
When Gelato arrived at the shelter, he was unable to stand or walk on his own and was too small for any available wheelchairs. Smith used cardboard, rulers, Hot Wheels, and tape to make Gelato his own custom wheelchair.
The device is already making a difference, with Gelato getting stronger every day and starting to stand for little moments on his own. Gelato remains in foster care, being cared for by Smith, as he continues to recover.
