Kings View, a nonprofit serving clients in 23 counties across the state, is ending its mental health services in Shasta due to another delay in the contract process with Shasta County’s Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA).

Contract Delays and Financial Challenges

The decision comes after Kings View faced repeated challenges in Shasta, including timely contracts and reimbursement for services provided during gaps in contracts. The nonprofit’s contract with the county ended June 30, and it is currently handing off clients and closing its Redding-based wellness center.

Kings View’s Clinical Officer Marilyn Sliney explained that the nonprofit’s work in Shasta cannot continue due to fiscal responsibilities and historical gaps in contracts that resulted in unreimbursed costs. The organization had been serving about 120 mental health clients in Shasta through two programs: Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) and Sunrise Mountain Wellness Center.

Impact on Clients and Community

The AOT program provides court-ordered community treatment for individuals with serious mental illnesses, while the wellness center offered holistic mental health support services to about 100 clients each month. The nonprofit’s departure will likely impact these clients and the broader community, as the programs helped keep clients safe and increased community safety.
