The chief of the Kenton County Police Department will be stepping aside from his position in September. Chief Michael “Spike” Jones will step down on Sept. 11.

Leadership and Legacy

Under Jones’ leadership, the department has modernized and expanded its school resource officer program and established the department’s aviation section. Jones is under consideration to serve as assistant city manager for the City of Covington, where he previously served as police chief.

Kenton County Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann praised Jones’ leadership, saying, “We are incredibly grateful for the leadership Spike has brought to KCPD over the past 11 years. He has helped build a strong foundation for the future and position the department for continued success.”
