Kent County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a vehicle near the intersection of 18 Mile Road and Pine Lake Avenue early Monday after receiving a “Be on the lookout” alert. The alert, issued by Sheriff Bryan Muir, was based on a tip that a woman had been injured and a man was seen with blood.
Victims identified and condition
Inside the car, deputies discovered a 28‑year‑old woman and a 44‑year‑old man, both bearing injuries described as knife‑style cuts. Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The man, whose injuries were reported as serious, was stabilized and then flown to a hospital by AeroMed for further treatment.
Investigation underway
Sheriff Muir said investigators are still working to determine where the incident originated. “We are working with Montcalm County and Greenville Public Safety right now to determine if this incident occurred in their jurisdiction or occurred here in Kent County,” he explained. For the time being, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
Detectives have not ruled out any relationship between the two victims, but they do not believe a third party was involved. The surviving male suspect remains under police observation as the inquiry continues.
Community response
Local residents expressed concern over the violent nature of the incident, emphasizing the importance of swift law‑enforcement response and cooperation with neighboring jurisdictions. The sheriff’s office encouraged anyone with additional information to contact the department.
Next steps
The investigation will focus on forensic evidence, witness statements, and any surveillance footage from the area. Authorities have not released further details pending the ongoing inquiry.
