Kennedy Center to Remove Trump References Following Court Ruling

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., is taking steps to remove references to President Donald Trump following a federal judge’s ruling that his name was added illegally. This decision comes after U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper’s May 29 ruling, which also halted a major renovation plan for the center.

Compliance with Court Order

Roma Daravi, the Kennedy Center’s vice president of public relations, stated that the institution is complying with the court’s order while exploring legal options to preserve the center’s revitalization and acknowledge President Trump’s contributions. The center’s Office of General Counsel issued a memo instructing staff to update email signatures, letterheads, and other documents to reflect the official name, “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts” or simply “Kennedy Center.” These changes are required to be completed by June 12.

Renovation Plans Halted

Judge Cooper’s ruling also blocked the Trump administration’s plans to close the cultural venue for extensive renovations set to begin in July. In response, President Trump announced he would step back from the revamp and hand control back to Congress. He expressed frustration over the ruling, linking it to previous legal setbacks, including the Supreme Court’s rejection of his tariffs earlier this year.

Future Developments

Despite the setback at the Kennedy Center, the Trump administration has completed other projects, such as painting the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool’s bottom “American flag blue” and demolishing the White House East Wing to construct a large ballroom. Plans are also underway to build an arch between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.
