Kemah City Council voted unanimously to accept a $2.6 million grant from the Texas General Land Office to continue development and improvements at the 57-acre nature facility. The reserve is being developed in phases, with phases 1 and 2 already completed, featuring open space, entry monuments, and a pavilion.
Project Details
The current efforts will focus on developing the eastern portion of the reserve with phases 3 through 6. Once completed, the reserve will feature amenities such as an inclusive playground, an outdoor classroom pavilion, boardwalks, benches, and an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant parking lot, as well as native landscape improvements.
The goal of the park is to provide a habitat for animals, birds, and insects indigenous to the area, and to serve as a place where visitors can observe and learn about the specific species in the area. The project is slated to be completed by 2029, according to city documents.
