Katy Perry Blasts White House

Katy Perry, a renowned singer, has expressed her deep disappointment and anger towards the White House for using her hit song ‘Firework’ in a TikTok video without her consent. The video featured black and white footage of recent military strikes on Iranian targets, set to the ‘boom, boom, boom’ lyric from ‘Firework’.

Background

In 2023, Perry sold her music catalog, including ‘Firework’, to Litmus Music for $225 million. Despite this, she maintains that she did not approve the use of her song in the White House video and does not condone it.

Perry wrote ‘Firework’ as an anthem of hope, healing, and inner strength for people going through difficult times. She believes that using her song to soundtrack destruction and violence is a complete violation of its intended message.

Response from the White House

The White House responded to Perry’s criticism through Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Communications Director Kaelan Dorr, who shared a montage of clips from Perry’s music video for ‘Part of Me’.

Dorr’s response was seen as dismissive, and Perry’s criticism is not an isolated incident. Other musicians, such as Ariana Grande and Kesha, have also objected to the use of their songs by the Trump administration.
