Kate Hudson to Produce Sequel to ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’

Paramount Pictures announced that a sequel to the 2003 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is moving forward. Original lead Kate Hudson, who played magazine columnist Andie Anderson, will serve as a producer on the project alongside veteran film producer Stacey Sher, whose credits include Pulp Fiction, Erin Brockovich and Django Unchained.

According to sources close to the development, the studio is currently seeking a screenwriter. No additional cast members have been attached at this early stage, and it remains uncertain whether Hudson’s former co‑star Matthew McConaughey will return as advertising executive Benjamin Barry.

Background on the original film

The 2003 picture followed Andie, a columnist tasked with proving she could make a man break up with her in ten days. The assignment quickly turned into a classic “will‑they‑won’t‑they” romance when she met Benjamin, who had bet his boss that he could make her fall in love with him. The film earned nearly $180 million worldwide and cemented the yellow silk Carolina Herrera gown worn by Hudson as an iconic cinematic moment.

Recent comments from the stars

When asked about a possible sequel on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live in 2024, Hudson said studios are always looking at reviving the property, but any decision would hinge on the script and the interest of both leads. “All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were into the script,” she explained.

McConaughey recently called the film his favorite rom‑com in an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, describing it as “the gift that keeps on giving” and noting it still provides the best residual income of any movie he’s done.

Industry context

The sequel news arrives as Paramount continues to explore ways to leverage its library of early‑2000s hits. Recent box‑office successes for follow‑ups such as The Devil Wears Prada 2, the new Scary Movie, and Toy Story 5 have shown strong audience appetite for nostalgic franchises.

Paramount’s broader strategy includes merging its film and television operations with Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of CNN, HBO and other media assets, in an effort to streamline content creation and distribution.

While the project is still in development, fans of the original film can look forward to potential updates as Paramount finalizes a writer and confirms additional talent.
