Kat Lieu, a food writer and founder of Subtle Asian Baking, has created a unique twist on the classic Rice Krispie Treats. Her Black Sesame-Brown Butter Rice Krispies Treats combine the traditional marshmallow-based snack with Asian-inspired flavors.
Recipe
The recipe, excerpted from her book ‘108 Asian Cookies,’ starts with making brown butter by melting unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. The butter is then mixed with mini marshmallows, black sesame seeds, black sesame paste, and miso. The mixture is then combined with Rice Krispies cereal and optionally, freeze-dried strawberry slices or haw flakes.
The treats are then pressed into a 9-inch-square cake pan lined with parchment paper and allowed to set at room temperature for 30 minutes. Once set, the treats can be cut into 12 to 16 equal pieces.
