June Events Celebrate Seniors and Community in D.C.

As June unfolds, the Department of Aging and Community Living in Washington D.C. invites seniors to engage in a series of events celebrating community and inclusion. This month, the focus is on honoring the contributions of older adults, particularly those from the LGBTQ+ community, as part of Pride Month.

Celebrating Seniors in the District

The month kicks off with the Ms. Senior DC Pageant on June 14, 2026, at the University of the District of Columbia. This event showcases the elegance, talent, and leadership of senior women competing for the title of Ms. Senior DC 2026. Tickets are available online or through the Department’s office.

Another highlight is the Capital Pride Parade on June 20, where seniors are encouraged to join the Senior Pride Trolley. This initiative, supported by Mayor Bowser, aims to demonstrate unity and support for inclusivity across the District. Seniors interested in participating can contact the Department for more information.

Reflecting on Past Achievements

Looking back at May, the Older Americans Month was celebrated with the theme “Champion Your Health.” Events like the inaugural Roll, Stroll, and Run: Older and Bolder Walk brought seniors together to promote wellness and active aging. The month concluded with Mayor Bowser’s Senior Fest, a community event fostering connections among seniors and local partners.

Director Charon P.W. Hines emphasizes the importance of staying active and engaged, encouraging seniors to participate in upcoming events and programs. The Department remains committed to supporting the well-being of older adults in the District.

For more information on events and participation, seniors can reach out to the Department of Aging and Community Living.
