Julie Strum Appointed CEO of MCBA, Expanding Civic Engagement in DFW

The Metroplex Civic & Business Association (MCBA) has appointed Julie Strum as its new chief executive officer, marking a significant step in its mission to boost civic and charitable engagement throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Strum, who has been with MCBA for nearly four years, previously served as the chief operating officer and has been instrumental in strengthening the organization’s operations and member value.

Leadership and Vision

Under the leadership of Chairman Amish Gupta, the MCBA Board of Directors selected Strum to guide the nonprofit business league into its next phase of growth. Gupta praised Strum for her dedication to MCBA’s mission and her ability to unite people around practical civic engagement. Strum’s diverse background in both nonprofit and for-profit sectors, including her experience as a small business owner, has shaped her leadership approach centered on stewardship and community impact.

Strum emphasized the importance of strong businesses in creating strong communities. She stated, “At MCBA, we believe civic participation should be easy, meaningful, and focused on driving communities forward. Our mission remains centered on empowering business leaders and their employees to engage locally and help shape a strong, safe, and prosperous region.”

Expanding Civic Initiatives

MCBA, which celebrated its fifth anniversary in December, has grown from seven founding companies to over 100, representing approximately 12,000 employees. The organization was established during the disruptions of 2020 to foster positive change within the business community in Dallas and surrounding counties. Strum highlighted that while MCBA facilitates networking and revenue growth for its members, it also prioritizes engaging employees in local, nonpartisan elections.

The organization’s “Vote Local” program encourages civic participation, while the “Give Local” program connects member companies with volunteer opportunities and nonprofit partners. MCBA has engaged nearly 30,000 registered voters and reached over 60,000 employees across 11 elections, setting itself apart from other business leagues in terms of employee mobilization.

Looking ahead, Strum plans to continue expanding opportunities for member businesses and their employees to connect with civic and charitable initiatives throughout North Texas, reinforcing MCBA’s commitment to community-focused growth and engagement.
