Judge Orders Permanent Closure of 708 Bar & Grille in Huntsville

The 708 Bar & Grille, located on Poplar Avenue in Huntsville, Alabama, has been permanently closed following a ruling by Madison County Circuit Judge Ruth Ann Hall. The decision comes after the establishment was deemed a public nuisance and a persistent violator of zoning laws.

Legal Proceedings and Violations

Judge Hall’s order was issued after the defendants, including 708 Bar & Grille, LLC, and several individuals, failed to comply with discovery requests and court orders. The court found that the bar’s operations violated the City of Huntsville’s Zoning Ordinance and posed a threat to the health, morals, comfort, and welfare of the surrounding neighborhood.

The ruling mandates that the defendants surrender or close out all state and city business and alcohol licenses within 48 hours. The property is to remain padlocked, and no gatherings are permitted on the premises without prior court approval. Additionally, the defendants are prohibited from using any other corporate entity to circumvent the closure order.

Pattern of Incidents

The city’s case against the bar highlighted a series of incidents, including three shootings between May 2024 and March 2025, drug activity, and a fatal DUI crash in 2024 involving a patron who was allegedly intoxicated. The establishment also faced code violations for unpermitted DJs and serving alcohol past midnight.

Judge Hall’s decision also referenced Rule 37 of the Alabama Rules of Civil Procedure, which allows for judgment as a sanction for failing to participate in discovery. The court costs have been assigned to the defendants.
