Jones vs. Edgewater high school football game moved to Oct. 12

Orange County Public Schools announced that the highly anticipated varsity football contest between Jones High School and Edgewater will not take place on Friday night as originally scheduled. Electrical issues with the field lighting at Jones forced officials to postpone the game to ensure the safety of students, staff, and spectators.

Rescheduled date and time

The game is now set for Monday, Oct. 12, with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. at Jones High School. The district’s facilities crews are working around the clock to repair the lighting system and restore full functionality before the new date.

District statement

“Facilities crews are working to complete the necessary repairs. The safety of students, staff, and guests remains the district’s top priority,” the district statement read. “We appreciate the community’s understanding and support.”

Impact on teams and fans

Both coaching staffs expressed disappointment at the delay but emphasized that player safety must come first. Head coach Mark Daniels of Jones noted, “We’re eager to get back on the field, but we won’t compromise on safety. We look forward to a great game on Oct. 12.” Edgewater’s coach, Lisa Ramirez, echoed the sentiment, adding that the teams will use the extra time for additional practice and preparation.

Fans who had planned to attend the Friday night matchup are encouraged to check the school’s website and social media channels for any further updates. Parking and concession arrangements will remain the same for the rescheduled date.

Community response

Local residents and parents have voiced support for the district’s decision, praising the emphasis on safety. “It’s the right call,” said longtime Jones supporter and parent Tom Whitaker. “Our kids’ well‑being comes before a game, and we’re grateful the district is handling it responsibly.”

The postponement also provides an opportunity for families to enjoy a weekday evening game, potentially drawing a larger crowd from the surrounding community.

Looking ahead

With the new date set, both teams will focus on fine‑tuning their strategies and ensuring that the field is ready for a safe and competitive contest. The district will continue to monitor the progress of the lighting repairs and will issue any further notices if needed.

Stay tuned to Jones High School’s official channels for the latest information on the game schedule, ticketing, and any additional updates regarding the venue.
