Jon Rahm says he has no update on LIV Golf future as circuit faces funding uncertainty

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm, who has claimed LIV Golf’s individual title each season since joining the circuit in 2024, entered the press conference for this week’s Irish Open with a clear message: he has “no updates” on the status of LIV Golf. Rahm’s remarks came after the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund ended its financing of the tour at the close of the 2026 season.

Funding questions loom over LIV Golf

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil announced that a new investor has been secured for a “LIV 2.0” effort, but reports of a possible bankruptcy filing and lingering funding questions have left the tour’s future in doubt. The uncertainty extends to all players on the circuit, including Rahm, who remains under contract with the original LIV arrangement.

Rahm’s response to media inquiries

When BBC Sport pressed him about his plans for 2027, Rahm said, “There’s just a lot of things in place. There’s a lot of things that could happen. It’s one of those things with time, time’s going to tell.” When asked whether he would like a pathway back to the PGA Tour, he replied, “I still have a contract with LIV 1.0 that I am more than willing to fulfill. Like I said, time will tell.” He added, “We’ll see what happens,” when the question was repeated.

Contract and compensation concerns

Reports indicate Rahm is owed a nine‑figure sum under his LIV contract. If the tour files for bankruptcy, the timing and amount of any payment remain uncertain. Rahm, like his fellow LIV players, is currently limited in what he can publicly commit to while the legal and financial details are being sorted.

What this means for fans and the broader golf world

The lack of a clear pathway back to the PGA Tour for LIV players continues to be a point of speculation. While it is reasonable to expect that a high‑profile player such as Rahm would eventually be offered a route back, no concrete plan has been announced. The situation underscores the broader challenges facing the breakaway circuit as it seeks to secure long‑term viability.

Looking ahead

For now, Rahm will compete in several DP World Tour events in the coming weeks, using the Irish Open as a platform to stay sharp while the LIV situation unfolds. Golf fans across the United States and abroad will be watching closely to see whether LIV Golf can secure stable financing for a 2027 season or whether the tour will undergo a restructuring that could reshape professional golf’s landscape.
