Background of the Case
Saulter previously served as the top deputy under King and was fired after bringing a female employee’s complaints of sexual harassment to the Texas Rangers. A criminal trial earlier this year ended in a mistrial, with no new trial date set. King was arrested and charged with one misdemeanor and two felonies related to official oppression, sexual harassment, and retaliation against a witness.
Prosecutors called over 20 witnesses during the trial, while King’s defense rested without calling any witnesses, and King did not testify. If convicted, King faces up to 10 years in prison. A new jury will be selected for the retrial once a date is set.
