Fairfield, Ohio – On Saturday morning, volunteers and community members gathered at 4850 Groh Lane to break ground on the Joe Nuxhall Hope Center. The project will create a 31,000‑square‑foot indoor sports facility specifically designed for athletes with disabilities.
Facilities tailored for all abilities
The upcoming center will include a full‑size basketball court, a multi‑purpose fitness center, rock‑climbing walls, a trampoline area and a community room. Every space is being built with accessibility in mind, ensuring that individuals with special needs can enjoy safe, high‑quality recreational opportunities.
Honoring a local legend’s vision
Joe Nuxhall’s son, Kim Nuxhall, said the center fulfills a dream his father held for more than two decades. “Dad would be so overwhelmed with joy as well,” Kim said. “He loved this community, and this is a reflection of the community loving him back.”
Fundraising progress and needs
The Nuxhall Foundation has already raised $7.5 million toward the project, but the total goal remains $12 million to complete all planned components. The foundation continues to encourage donations from residents and supporters who share the vision of making sports accessible to everyone.
How to support
Those interested in contributing can learn more and donate through the Nuxhall Miracle League’s website, which provides details on the center’s mission, progress updates, and ways to get involved.
The Hope Center is expected to become a hub for inclusive athletics, offering local families and schools a valuable resource for physical activity, teamwork and community building.
