Joan Cusack Returns to Red Carpet for ‘Toy Story 5’ Premiere

Joan Cusack, the celebrated actress known for her roles in both film and television, returned to the red carpet for the first time since 2015. She attended the premiere of ‘Toy Story 5’ in London on May 28, where she reprises her beloved role as the voice of Jessie, the cowgirl toy.

Jessie’s Story Takes Center Stage

In ‘Toy Story 5,’ Jessie is at the forefront, helping 8-year-old Bonnie find new friends. Cusack expressed her enthusiasm for the film in an interview with Britain’s Virgin Radio UK, stating, “This is Jessie’s story. It’s glorious.” Her co-star, Tim Allen, praised her performance, saying, “This woman comes through.” The film is set to hit theaters on June 19.

Cusack, who has been a prominent figure in Hollywood, has kept a relatively low profile in recent years. Her last on-screen appearance was in the TV series ‘Homecoming’ in 2020, and her last film role was in 2019’s ‘Let It Snow.’ Despite her absence from the screen, her impact on the industry remains significant, with Oscar nominations for her roles in ‘In & Out’ and ‘Working Girl.’

A Storied Career

Joan Cusack has had a diverse career, appearing in films alongside her brother, John Cusack, such as ‘Sixteen Candles,’ ‘Say Anything,’ and ‘Grosse Pointe Blank.’ She has also starred in ‘School of Rock,’ ‘Broadcast News,’ ‘Addams Family Values,’ and ‘Runaway Bride.’ In addition to her film work, she headlined her own sitcom, ‘What About Joan?’

Her brother, John, has often praised her contributions to his films, noting her ability to bring humor and depth to her roles. In a 2020 interview with TODAY’s Willie Geist, he likened her impact to Wile E. Coyote, saying she “runs you over and you’re just like a flat pancake,” resulting in some of the funniest scenes in his movies.
