Jimmy Kimmel, the host of the eponymous ABC program, will take a two-month break from hosting his show. During his absence, several guest hosts will fill in, including comedian and frequent Donald Trump foe Rosie O’Donnell.
Kimmel announced his break on his show, joking about his suspension last year for his comments about reactions to Charlie Kirk’s death. The guest hosts will start the week of July 6, with Tiffany Haddish, Anthony Anderson, Ike Barinholtz, Colman Domingo, and Jelly Roll among those scheduled to appear.
Kimmel’s show was pulled from the air for nearly a week last year after he criticized some Republicans for their response to Kirk’s death. The remarks drew swift condemnation from prominent Republican figures and prompted FCC Chair Brendan Carr to threaten regulatory action.
Kimmel returned to the air on September 23, visibly emotional as he addressed the suspension. He defended free speech, saying, ‘This show is not important. What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.’
