A recent incident involving a Boeing 737 has raised concerns about aviation safety. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), a jet engine fan blade broke free and slammed into the side of the passenger cabin, breaking a window and leading to a man being partially sucked outside the aircraft.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on a Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki, Greece to Memmingen, Germany. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing after the window broke, and the passenger, 61-year-old Ljubisa Karovic, was pulled back into the plane by his wife and a flight attendant.

The NTSB report stated that the fan blade separation was caused by fatigue cracking, which was discovered on the remaining blade. The report also mentioned that eight other blades were deformed on the leading edge.

Investigation and Response

The NTSB is currently investigating the incident, and the Hellenic Air and Rail Safety Investigation Authority has been asked to participate as an accredited representative. The NTSB has also faulted Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary for commenting on the investigation while it remains open.
