This week in South Dakota history, a local museum received a unique donation. The Garretson Historical Society was given four oil paintings, including one that depicts the disputed horseback leap of outlaw Jesse James across Devil’s Gulch.
Local History Preserved
The donation was made possible by a fourth-grade class, a local reporter, and a museum-to-museum gift, according to the July 5, 2001, edition of the Argus Leader. The paintings are now part of the museum’s collection, preserving a piece of local history.
