Jefferson County Schools bus collision on S. 28th St. injures two students

Friday morning, a Jefferson County Schools (JCPS) bus was involved in a traffic collision near the intersection of South 28th Street and Wilson Avenue in Louisville. Police reported that the bus, identified as vehicle No. 1834, was stopped at a stop sign and attempting to move forward when a Ford Fusion entered the intersection and struck the side of the bus.

Injuries and medical response

Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers confirmed that children were aboard the bus at the time of the crash. Two students were transported to Norton Children’s Hospital for treatment of injuries that police said are not life‑threatening. The driver of the Fusion was also taken to a hospital for evaluation, with his injuries likewise described as non‑life‑threatening.

Police investigation

LMPD’s Second Division was dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:03 a.m. Officers are conducting a standard traffic investigation. The driver of the Fusion is expected to be cited for traffic offenses related to the collision. No other vehicles were reported to be involved.

JCPS response

JCPS officials have not released a detailed statement beyond confirming the bus number and the fact that the incident occurred during regular morning routes. The district typically emphasizes student safety and works closely with local law‑enforcement agencies to investigate any incidents involving its transportation fleet.

Community impact

Parents and community members were notified of the incident through the district’s emergency communication system. The school district encourages families to remain vigilant about traffic safety and to follow any instructions from school officials regarding transportation adjustments while the investigation proceeds.

What’s next

The LMPD investigation will determine the precise cause of the collision and whether any additional traffic safety measures are warranted at the intersection. Updates will be provided as they become available.
