Jeep recalls over 328,000 Grand Cherokee SUVs for rear spring defect

Jeep announced a nationwide recall covering 328,381 Grand Cherokee‑type SUVs after identifying a potential defect in the rear coil‑spring installation. The affected vehicles include the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L and the plug‑in hybrid Grand Cherokee 4XE.

Models and model years affected

The recall applies to long‑wheelbase Grand Cherokee L models from the 2021‑2023 model years, and to the standard Grand Cherokee and 4XE versions from the 2022‑2023 model years. Vehicles equipped with air suspension are excluded, as the issue does not impact that system.

Nature of the defect

According to the recall documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some SUVs were assembled with rear coil springs that were not installed correctly. While the springs themselves remain structurally sound, the improper installation could allow the springs to detach from the vehicle while it is in motion. A detached suspension component creates a clear hazard for the SUV’s occupants and for other drivers sharing the road.

Estimated impact and reported incidents

The paperwork estimates that only about 0.1 percent of the recalled population may actually be affected by the installation error. At the time of filing, Jeep reported no known accidents or injuries linked to the defect. However, the company logged 29 customer‑assistance records and 409 warranty claims related to the issue.

What owners should do

Jeep will contact owners of the affected vehicles with detailed instructions. The remedy involves replacing the rear coil‑spring lower isolators at an authorized service center. Owners who are unsure whether their vehicle is part of the recall can verify its status on the NHTSA recall lookup website.

Safety and consumer confidence

Recalls such as this demonstrate the automotive industry’s commitment to safety and to addressing potential problems before they result in harm. By acting promptly, Jeep helps protect families—who rely on reliable transportation for work, school and worship—while reinforcing confidence in American‑made vehicles.

Consumers are encouraged to stay informed about any future service campaigns and to schedule the necessary repairs as soon as possible. Prompt compliance not only ensures personal safety but also contributes to safer roadways for all travelers.
