JCCC Scholarship Helps Garmin Employee Pursue Engineering Degree

Aidan Kopp, a Johnson County resident and Garmin employee, is a testament to the power of perseverance and determination. After initially struggling in college, Kopp took an eight-year hiatus to focus on his career, working as an Analysis and Repair Technician at Garmin.

A New Chapter

Kopp has since returned to Johnson County Community College (JCCC) with a newfound sense of purpose, pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electronics Technology. His hard work and dedication have earned him a 4.0 GPA, and he was recently awarded the Hugh L. and Betty E. Libby Scholarship.

The scholarship has been a game-changer for Kopp, allowing him to transition to full-time student status and reduce his hours at Garmin. He plans to transfer to Oregon State University after graduating from JCCC, where he will pursue a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

Kopp’s story is an inspiration to anyone who has faced setbacks or doubts about their abilities. His advice to incoming students is to focus on the bigger picture and not be too hard on themselves. ‘Success is not the absence of failure, but the minimization of failure,’ he said.
