Jim Jarvis, a former Alabama baseball star, has been on a hot streak since his recent call-up for a second stint in the majors, quickly establishing himself as a key contributor in the Atlanta Braves lineup.

Impressive Performance

Since being recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on July 2, Jarvis has been a force at the plate, hitting .300 over 15 games this month. He’s driven in seven runs, including a go-ahead RBI in the Braves’ 7-6 victory over the Padres on July 22 and launched a home run in a 10-5 win against Pittsburgh, where he racked up three hits.

On defense, Jarvis has continued to shine, turning 16 double plays and making just two errors in 124 innings this month, a testament to his reliability and range at shortstop.

Decision Time for Braves

Jarvis’s hot streak has presented the Braves with a difficult decision as Ha-Seong Kim nears a return from his rehab assignment in Gwinnett following a finger injury. Kim, Atlanta’s starting shortstop, could be back by August 2, but the front office might opt to keep Jarvis in the lineup, especially given the praise he’s received from Braves manager Walt Weiss.

Weiss added, “He understands how to take an at-bat. There’s not a lot of chase. He forces guys into the zone. He’ll draw the walk. He’ll take an at-bat according to what the scoreboard’s telling him. There’s some feel for the game there. I think if you’re going to play in the middle of the field, especially at shortstop, you have to have a high baseball IQ.”
