Japan Fans Clean Up After World Cup Match

Japanese soccer fans in Arlington, Texas, continued their tradition of cleaning up after their team’s match against the Netherlands in the World Cup. The fans, known as the Samurai Blue, used blue bags to pick up trash from the stands after the 2-2 draw at AT&T Stadium.

A Tradition of Respect

This tradition of cleaning up after matches started in 1998 during Japan’s first World Cup appearance in France and has continued every four years since. The fans’ actions have drawn attention and praise for their respect for the stadiums and the environment.

The use of blue bags is not only for cleaning up but also a part of the fans’ celebration. The bags are waved in the air during the match, especially after goals are scored. The scene becomes frantic after goals, such as the late tying goal scored by Daichi Kamada.

The actions of the Japanese fans have left a positive mark on the stadium, with workers having less cleanup duty after the match. This tradition is a testament to the respect and discipline of the Japanese fans, who prioritize not only their team’s performance but also the environment and the community.
