FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The James Foundation announced a $1 million donation to Pearl Arts, a nonprofit that provides private music instruction to children throughout Northeast Indiana. The gift will fund expanded tuition‑assistance scholarships at the Pearl Arts Music Academy, ensuring that more families can afford lessons for their children.
Broadening Access to Music Education
Pearl Arts currently serves more than 500 students each week, offering instruction in piano, strings, voice, winds, percussion and guitar. With the new scholarship fund, the organization expects to meet growing demand and open doors for additional students ages 4 to 18 who might otherwise be unable to afford private lessons.
Foundation’s Vision
Founded by Vicki and Rick James, the James Foundation believes music education is a vital part of a well‑rounded upbringing and should be accessible to every child. The foundation described the contribution as an investment in the community’s future, helping to nurture young talent and strengthen family bonds through shared artistic experiences.
Local Impact
“This gift is an investment in our youth, their families, and the future of the region,” said Angie Fincannon, CEO of Pearl Arts. “By removing financial barriers, we empower more children to explore their musical passions, develop discipline, and build confidence—values that resonate far beyond the practice room.”
The scholarship program will be administered through an application process hosted on Pearl Arts’ website. Eligible families can learn more about the criteria and submit applications at pearlarts.org/scholarship. The organization also announced a matching‑challenge initiative, inviting corporations, foundations, and individual donors to contribute additional funds that will be matched dollar‑for‑dollar.
Community Support
Local businesses and civic leaders have praised the initiative, noting that music education contributes to academic achievement, emotional well‑being, and community cohesion. Parents who have benefited from Pearl Arts’ programs say the lessons have become a cornerstone of their children’s weekly routine.
“My son has thrived since he started piano lessons,” said Maria Lopez, a Fort Wayne resident and parent of a Pearl Arts student. “Knowing that more families will have this opportunity is a true blessing for our neighborhood.”
For families interested in enrolling or learning more about the scholarship, Pearl Arts encourages visits to their Academy page at pearlarts.org/academy. The organization continues to seek partnerships that will sustain and grow music education throughout the region.
