James Carville slams DSA candidate Oliver Larkin in Florida 25th District primary

Longtime Democratic operative James Carville entered the conversation surrounding Florida’s newly drawn 25th Congressional District primary on Monday, taking aim at the district’s Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) nominee, 33‑year‑old Oliver Larkin. Carville, best known for his role in former President Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign, told Fox News Digital that Larkin “has the attribute of every DSA member in the country, and that is he has a motor mouth.” He added, “He fits right in.”

Local race draws national attention

The 25th District, a competitive swing district in South Florida, pits Larkin against incumbent Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz, who is backed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and receives indirect support from AIPAC, a prominent pro‑Israel political group. While Moskowitz is viewed as a moderate Democrat, Larkin is the only DSA‑endorsed House candidate in the race and a veteran of Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign.

Larkin, speaking to Fox News on the campaign trail, asserted that “Democratic socialism can win in any district, in any race, for any office all across the country.” He expressed pride in carrying “the torch forward as a DSA candidate” and warned that the party establishment’s power is waning as a new generation of leaders steps forward.

Carville, who has repeatedly warned against far‑left victories in primary contests, described the DSA candidates as “a bunch of silly people… a pack of fools” during his appearance on Fox News’ “Jesse Waters Primetime.” He framed the contest as part of a broader ideological battle within the Democratic Party, arguing that the party’s future depends on maintaining a centrist, family‑focused platform.

In a separate interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Larkin countered Carville’s criticism, calling it “foolhardy” to exclude DSA members from the Democratic Party. He suggested that the party could soon be “begging for our votes in 2028” if it continues to marginalize progressive voices.

The primary, scheduled for Tuesday, will determine which candidate appears on the ballot for the November 2026 general election. Voters in the district will decide whether they prefer Moskowitz’s moderate record and establishment backing or Larkin’s progressive platform that emphasizes expanded social programs and a more activist foreign‑policy stance.

Both campaigns have highlighted the importance of parental rights, religious liberty, and economic stability—issues that resonate with many families in the district. While Moskowitz emphasizes his work on infrastructure and public safety, Larkin has focused on expanding access to health care and education, positioning himself as a champion of working‑class families.

Local political observers note that the race could serve as a bellwether for the Democratic Party’s direction in Florida and possibly nationwide. The outcome may influence how the party allocates resources in future primaries and whether DSA‑aligned candidates can secure broader electoral support.

As the primary approaches, both campaigns are ramping up outreach efforts, holding town halls, and seeking endorsements from key community leaders. Voters are encouraged to review each candidate’s record and platform before casting their ballots.
