Jackson launches free creative classes for adults 55+ this fall

Jackson, WY — This fall and winter the town’s arts community is expanding opportunities for seniors. Grants from the Wyoming Arts Council have enabled three local organizations—Dancers’ Workshop, Jackson Hole Writers and Teton Music School—to roll out a series of creative classes aimed at adults 55 and older.

Variety of classes for every interest

Participants can choose from a wide range of activities. Music lovers may pick up a ukulele in the “Uke55” class or join a concert band, while those who prefer movement can try tap dancing. Writers’ workshops invite budding poets to explore language, and visual‑arts sessions let seniors experiment with paint, collage and mixed‑media techniques.

Painter and collage artist Miga Rosetti also received a grant to teach two experimental classes this fall, adding further depth to the program. All courses are designed to be sequential, allowing students to build skills over time and ultimately share their completed works with the broader community.

Community impact and personal stories

One Teton Music School participant, who began ukulele lessons at age 66, summed up the experience with a simple, heartfelt statement: “My lifelong dream came true.” The program’s emphasis on inclusivity means no prior experience is required for many of the offerings, and several classes are offered at reduced fees or on a pay‑what‑you‑can basis, ensuring that cost is not a barrier.

Local officials and arts advocates see the initiative as a way to enrich the cultural fabric of Jackson while supporting the well‑being of older residents. Creative engagement has been linked to improved mental health, stronger social connections and a sense of purpose—values that align with the town’s commitment to family, faith and individual liberty.

How to enroll

Interested seniors can register through the websites of the participating organizations or by visiting the Jackson community center. Classes fill quickly, so early enrollment is encouraged. For more information, contact Dancers’ Workshop, Jackson Hole Writers or Teton Music School directly.

The creative‑aging project grants underscore Wyoming’s dedication to lifelong learning and community vitality. By offering affordable, high‑quality arts education, Jackson continues to foster a vibrant, intergenerational environment where every resident can explore new passions.
