Italian tennis players Flavio Cobolli and Jasmine Paolini had a successful day at Wimbledon, with both advancing to the quarterfinals. Cobolli defeated Alex de Minaur in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (4), 6-3, while Paolini beat Alexandra Eala, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Cobolli’s Celebration
After his win, Cobolli celebrated by performing a Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired soccer celebration, twirling in mid-air and landing with his feet planted wide. The crowd joined in, shouting “Siuuu” along with Cobolli.
Cobolli, who was once a promising soccer player himself, said he loves Ronaldo and will be cheering for Portugal in the World Cup. He also revealed that he had to find a new house in the Wimbledon village after his initial reservation only went through the first week.
Paolini’s Focus
Paolini, on the other hand, had to focus on her match despite the presence of tennis legend Roger Federer in the Royal Box. She said Federer is her idol and she had to remind herself to stay focused during the match.
Paolini’s next opponent will be Marta Kostyuk, who reached her first Wimbledon quarterfinal by beating American qualifier Ashlyn Krueger. Cobolli will face Arthur Fery in the quarterfinals.
