Israel is taking steps to prepare its citizens for potential terror attacks. Magen48, a training organization, has partnered with the Israel Defense Forces to provide civilians with the skills and knowledge needed to respond to life-threatening emergencies.
Training Exercises
Magen48 has conducted over 550 training sessions, including a recent exercise in Kibbutz Bror Hayil, located near the Gaza border. The exercise simulated a scenario in which terrorists infiltrated the kibbutz kindergarten, and the local civilian defense squad had to respond while ensuring the safety of the children.
The training sessions cover a range of topics, including weapon operation, first aid, and communication skills. Participants learn how to work in pairs and larger groups, and how to respond to emergency alerts. The goal of the training is to establish a unified operational language, so that nearby communities can join the response and coordinate effectively in the event of an attack.
Importance of Training
The training is seen as crucial in preventing another attack like the one that occurred on October 7, 2023, in which over 1,200 people were killed. Counterterrorism expert Ehud Dribben, who co-founded Magen48, emphasized the importance of strong, well-trained civilian response teams in improving security and bringing communities together.
