Pueblo artist Evone Martinez was chosen to design the Albuquerque Isotopes’ first Native American Heritage Night jerseys. The jerseys feature tribal history and a prayer for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP).
Designing the Jerseys
Martinez’s design centers on the Tewa word ‘Agin,’ which means respect. The jerseys include ancestral pottery patterns and eagle feathers with a red dot, symbolizing a plea to the Creator to find and protect MMIP.
The Isotopes will wear the limited-edition uniforms on August 8, and fans can participate in an online auction for the game-worn jerseys, with proceeds benefiting the Bob Chavez Scholarship for the Arts.
