In an effort to maintain a safe and clean environment, Irving Code Enforcement is working closely with residents to uphold community standards. The department emphasizes education about code standards and processes, empowering residents to proactively manage their properties.
Common Violations and Compliance
Among the most frequent violations observed are grass or weeds exceeding 10 inches, vehicles parked on unpaved surfaces, trash accumulation, tree limbs or bushes obstructing sidewalks, and non-operational vehicles stored in driveways. When a violation is identified, a code enforcement officer issues a Notice of Violation (NOV) detailing the issue and providing a timeframe for compliance.
Residents receiving an NOV are encouraged to communicate with the issuing officer, who can assist in developing compliance plans and offer solutions. The primary goal of Code Enforcement is to achieve compliance rather than issue citations. In cases where violations remain unaddressed and communication is lacking, officers may resort to issuing citations or arranging for cleanup at the owner’s expense, though this is rare.
