Iran’s semi-official news agency has posted photos of a drinking water reservoir that officials claim was destroyed in a missile strike, as well as images of munition fragments that experts say appear to be from a US-made bomb.
US Central Command Response
US Central Command spokesperson Capt. Timothy Hawkins said the command was aware of the reports and is looking into the situation. The US launched strikes against Iran on Tuesday in response to Iran downing a US helicopter.
Water facilities are protected under the Geneva Convention. The destroyed reservoir served at least 20,000 Iranians, according to the Iranian Tasnim news agency.
Expert Analysis
Munitions experts say the damage to the water tank is broadly consistent with that from a GBU-39 series bomb, a precision-guided munition produced in the United States.
