After the extreme heat and powerful storms passed yesterday and overnight, Iowa will have the opportunity to enjoy some nice and comfortable days this week. Highs will return to the 70s and 80s this afternoon, but the state will have breezy conditions with northwest winds increasing to around 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

Smoke and Air Quality

Smoke will sweep across the state, but overall it will have a low impact on air quality, with no major air quality concerns expected. The rest of the week will feature much of the same, aside from the gusty winds. Highs will remain in the 70s and 80s, with morning lows in the 50s and 60s.

Rain chances will stay away until later Thursday into Friday. A chance for showers and an isolated storm will return toward the end of the week before the heat returns for the weekend. Highs will climb back into the upper 80s on Saturday and the 90s on Sunday, with humidity returning as well. Heat index values could climb back into the triple digits.
