A southeast Iowa teen, Cayden Plate from Rose Hill, is competing in the Presidential 1776 Award, a national civics competition that challenges students on U.S. history, the Constitution, and America’s founding principles.
Competition Details
The competition, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, features 20 finalists who traveled to Washington, D.C. to compete for a share of $250,000 in scholarships. Plate, a freshman from North Mahaska High School, advanced through qualifying rounds to reach the final stage.
The Presidential 1776 Award aims to promote civic education and awareness among high school students, encouraging them to learn about the U.S. Constitution, American history, and the principles of liberty and democracy.
