A suspect is in custody after leading law enforcement on a chase and causing an area lockdown in Humboldt County, Iowa. According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call at around 6:12 p.m. Tuesday about a man driving a pick-up truck erratically near Gilmore City and yelling at people.
Deputies attempted to speak with the driver, identified as Clayton Christian Nielsen, 41, of Gilmore City, who was “extremely agitated and non-compliant,” according to the sheriff’s office. Nielsen drove into a deputy’s vehicle and fled, eventually driving into a wooded area in Pocahontas County where his vehicle became disabled. He then fled on foot.
A search ensued but was called off due to darkness at around 10:15 p.m., prompting the sheriff’s office to alert residents to lock their vehicles and homes while the suspect was on the loose. Nielsen was taken into custody Wednesday morning and is charged with assault on persons in certain occupations while displaying a dangerous weapon, criminal mischief, eluding, and more.
