Zoomer, a boar from Atlantic, has taken home the top prize at the Iowa State Fair’s Biggest Boar contest. Weighing in at 1,246 pounds, Zoomer won the title by a slim margin of 6 pounds.
Zoomer’s Road to Victory
Zoomer’s owner, Todd Schuler, made changes to the boar’s feeding routine, which included eating corn soaked in water and a dozen eggs every day. Schuler said, ‘He was third last year. He’s been eating corn soaked in water and a dozen eggs every day.’ When asked about the cost of feeding Zoomer, Schuler explained that it would be around $700, but emphasized that it’s not about making money, it’s just fun to do.
Zoomer’s personality also drew attention during the event. Schuler described Zoomer as having an attitude, saying, ‘He’s got an attitude. He’s always kind of grumpy and growly, but I don’t think he would hurt anybody.’ Zoomer’s victory marked a significant improvement from his third-place finish last year.
The second-place winner, ‘Red,’ a Yorkshire/Duroc/Berkshire entry owned by Tom and Terri Bell of Olin, weighed in at 1,240 pounds.
